After moving to Barrie from Toronto in grade 10, I found myself going through a bit of culture shock. I remember walking through the new school and noticing the vast number of Caucasian students, wondering if there were any other cultures other than Canadian. Every class I went to had at least one person, including teachers, that would ask me the same questions, “Do you listen to rap music? Are you going to try out for the basketball team? Are you Robert’s brother?” I later found out that Robert was one of the only other black guys at the school. At first, I didn’t realize why I was being asked the same questions over and over. I asked a girl why and she replied “Well it’s because you’re…. you know?”
