Life Through My Eyes

Being brown growing up in a low-income community was tough, I was raised around the urban culture. I had to deal with a lot, from good friends to bad friends and good cops to bad cops. I’ve made some mistakes, which eventually led me to have a criminal record. The cops wouldn’t stop harassing me and corruption, to me, was at its finest. After going to jail more times than I can count, I never saw hope for anything and everything eventually fell downhill. When I tried turning around and getting a job, it did not work out. I felt I was being judged for my past actions and my state of mind had become negative. Once again, I didn’t care about anything and I thought I was going to die or rot in jail. As I got older and had a son, I realized you must be strong and smart. I had to be a positive father figure and lead by example. I didn’t want my son to fall into the life I was heading towards. I had to change. Although it took many experiences and time to fix my actions, I have been successful. I’ve held a job for the longest I thought I never could and I haven’t been to jail since. To this day, I strive to continue on the right path. This is just Life through my eyes.
