Hi, my name is Amoy. As a young black Women growing up in a low profiled neighbourhood it’s hard to make it out of my community. Especially when applying for jobs, having to change my address. Certain positions I would apply for they would frown upon a black, ghetto kid coming from a bad neighbourhood. They would frown upon me even more because they wouldn’t even think of letting me work in their environment. The statistics going on at the time being a black female and from a bad neighbourhood didn’t really help my case. Even being a black male coming from a bad neighbourhood and or being associated with a gang didn’t help either. It just made it harder. The odds were not in our favour. Through all the trials and tribulations, I have finally found what makes me different from the rest. What makes me stand out in the crowd. So, the pictures that you are going to witness today are pictures of a young black woman making herself more than what others may perceive or think about me.
