Understanding and Awareness

Kobe

I was always asked the question, what do you want to do with your life? What career do you want to go into? I never really thought of that in high school, which was the time when you were supposed to answer that question. I did know that to maximize my options, I would have to enter the academic stream.

I remember booking countless appointments with my guidance counselor, asking to go from the applied stream to the academic stream. She would always ask, what career do you want to achieve? I was always unsure, and that led to her denying me multiple times. It was until I got my grades up that I moved up into the academic stream, and while I was still uncertain, I had a group of friends that pushed me forward and encouraged me. I felt that I could handle the highest level of education and I was.

In 2020, COVID-19 essentially wiped my senior year. No prom, no graduation ceremony, solely school work. While I didn’t like it, it had to be done and I turned that frustration into focus. I easily got the highest GPA of my high school career and was offered admission by University of Toronto, York University and TMU(then Ryerson).

I ultimately chose York, and now I’m entering my junior year of university studying Media Studies and Communications. I have become more certain and clear with what I strive to be and what I want to do for my life and career. I’ve made many great friends and understood certain intricacies that I didn’t before. My ultimate goal is to work for a sports/entertainment company or even branch off and start my own media outlet. I also have an interest in pro wrestling and would like to get involved in that someday. Every journey has obstacles that one has to overcome. Obstacles are things you have to go through to achieve your goals. The bad feelings you feel when going through them is miniscule compared to the feeling you get when you defeat them.
