Change is a truth that connects us all. Whether we beg for it, chase it, or try to hold it off, change is always around the corner. Gandhi might ask us to be the change, but if you were to ask me, I would say we are subjected to changes we wish for and detest. We don’t choose to grow, or to die. These changes exist outside our control. Even when we tattoo, or cut bangs, bleach blonde or butt lift in Brazil, often changes in our control reflect changes outside our control. Infidelity, getting into college, burning your house down, or paying off your house, so much of our lives are marked by crossing a threshold from what it was to what it now is. Through changes big and small, I only hope to stay myself. Not melt, or crumble if I miss the bus, or bus my lip. Calm and serene, that’s what I hope to be as I wake from a dream into the new day that be. Change is inevitable but it won’t change me. Promise.
